Fuel Injectors
Fuel injectors can become clogged over time, the internal spring can wear out and the o-rings can dry out. When a fuel injector’s nozzle becomes clogged, the spray pattern becomes less than optimal for complete and even combustion which can cause misfires and rough idle. When the nozzle is excessively clogged, fuel will not be completely atomized and dripping can occur which will cause your engine to run poorly and seem down on power, or even worse, no fuel will be delivered. Over time the internal spring can become tired which can lead to injectors leaking fuel into the cylinder when it isn’t supposed to be there which can cause predetonation (pinging) and damage the engine. Many fuel injectors have their own internal filter as a last line of defense for the nozzle. When the internal filter becomes clogged, fuel flow is reduced which can cause a lean condition and damage the engine. Lastly, fuel injectors are sealed into their seats with o-rings that degrade over time and allow unmetered air into the cylinder which can cause a lean condition and burn up pistons and valves. Keeping your fuel injectors in top condition is important to keeping your engine running correctly and extending its life.
